Holidaying in Port Edward

The Estuary Country Estate is based right on Silver beach just a few kilometers short of Port Edward and in close proximity to no less than 7 top golf courses. The estate features it's own Beauty Spa, Fish Eagle Restaurant and is a paradise for nature lovers. Deep sea fishing, scuba diving, horse riding, tennis, squash, bowls and water sport are just a few of the activities available within a short drive of the estate.

Port Edward is the southernmost town on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast. The first “holiday cottage” was a shack built among the sand dunes “in the early days” by transport rider Edward Stafford. Unaware of their motility, however, he was surprised and dismayed to see his fine creation swallowed up.

This area was subjected to several name changes as property was bought and sold, but the practice came to an end in 1952 when the town of Port Edward was ceremoniously dedicated to the then Prince of Wales.

Fishing is one of the most popular sports in Port Edward. The gullies, rocks, surf, river and lagoon all offer a wealth of fun with line and rod. Ski boats launch from the main beach and offer thrills for spectators as they launch and land fighting the elements of the rough surf. There is good direct access to beaches, which are protected by shark netting. Lifeguards are always on duty during school holiday periods. A number of artists live and work in the Port Edward area and examples of their work can be seen in local galleries.
